demonstrate a type of headshot that has become the major point of focus in the genre of
headshots here at Church Street Studios LLC. In the past, actor
headshots dominated the need for portrait photography. 90% of the
headshot photography at Church Street Studios LLC used to be headshots
for performers, that is headshots for actors, headshots for models, and
headshots for dancers. With the advent of digital photography, the
internet, and most recently social media marketing the demand for
executive portraits, or business headshots has skyrocketed at Church
Street Studios, while the demand for performer headshots has plummeted.
The reasons are actually pretty obvious. With the dramatic rise in
online business transactions, and the need to be visible on the
internet, business people have begun to realize that the quality of
their business headshot matters. If they are part of a sales team or an
executive for a company, they can no longer get by without having an
image of themselves on the company web site. Furthermore that image has
to look good. It cannot be a snap shot with the son’s or daughter’s
i-phone. There is a need not only for quality executive portraits, but
also executive portraits that are consistent within the framework of a
particular company. Corporations need to establish a certain look for
their executives that can be duplicated by the photographer each time a
new executive joins the company. Because so much is at stake, large
companies and law firms look for a professional photographer with an
established reputation, a photography studio, and a body of work in the
area of commercial photography of business activities and business
personnel. Church Street Studios LLC has been in business since 1989 on
Church St. in Philadelphia PA. Our web site displays business
photography and in particular executive portraits from a wide array of
businesses. We have what it takes. As far as headshots for actors and
models go, we have seen a significant drop in requests for this kind of
headshot. The drop is mostly due to the existence of photography devices
that make the basics of capturing an image of a person’s head, in almost
any kind of light, and with little or no experience in professional
photography, accessible to even a child. It is also true that actor and
model headshots, as long as they show the persons face clearly, are
often acceptable for booking purposes. This is an area of portrait
photography for which the floodgates have been opened to the startup and
wannabe photographers. I always enjoyed working with actors and models
to create portraits of interest and effectiveness. However, given the
existence of photographers that will shoot mediocre actor model
headshots for commercially self-defeating give away prices, we have
chosen to focus our attention on the business community’s photography
needs.
